Alignment Based Hatha Yoga is a style of Hatha Yoga that focuses on the correct alignment of the body in the yoga postures. The late Guruji B. K. S. Iyengar was a pioneer of this style, which is now known worldwide as Iyengar Yoga.
Hatha Yoga describes the third and fourth step in Raja Yoga (one of the four main schools of Yoga). It is a preparatory phase that prepares the body for meditation through asana (body postures), pranayama (breathing techniques) as well as correct nutrition and attitude towards life. It aims to balance the dualistically oriented body and mind - in the knowledge that these polarities are a natural part of life and constantly in motion.
